June 24th was the day that Debby Ryan was finally able to express herself with her band-mates from "The Never Ending". Debby, Johnny, Carman, Edwin, Kyle and Harry released the album and fans loved it. The album had this unique balance. The album started off with the slowness of "Mullholland Drive" and then things were kicked up another level with "Ruthless". The album kept up this repetition of a relaxing slow smoothness, which would then transition to a sassy rock song. When it came to the album, Debby was nervous to do it at first, but her brother, Chase Ryan, who was also the producer, convinced her into it. After hearing what the album had to offer, it went above so many expectations. Chase had the perfect kind of faith in his younger sister. The lyrics may be Debby's words, but Chase definitely deserves a large amount of credit for the album, as well. He's the one who got her there. He's the one who gave her the courage and put together the instrumentals of the album with her and her band. The Ryan family bond is strong.
Debby is an actress on the Disney Channel and when you're on the Disney Channel, they have a good amount of control over what you do on their channel. They have this sugarcoated taste with the things they produce. When it comes to singing, Disney Channel has made Debby sing a pop songs for their movies and their shows. When these songs come out in the shows/movies, they do contain autotune, which takes away from Debby's actual talent. With this album, we get to hear the talent that Debby possess with her voice. She brings this smokey sass to each lyric she speaks in the more upbeat songs and this heartfelt sincerity into the slower songs. When it comes to the words, she shifts from one part to another so effortlessly.
The album contains five songs. With these five songs, they give you the most perfect first introduction to the actual Debby Ryan. The EP is totally her style and her taste. It totally has her mind in each lyric. You can hear more of her voice rising to the surface. Whether it's through "Mullholland Drive," which slowly begins to open up the record. It's one of those songs you can fall asleep to because of the peacefulness. Debby has a soothing voice as she sings about her new life in California and her journey through all the things she has ran into. Things kick off a little louder in "Ruthless". The beginning is more upbeat than "Mullholland" with the instrumentals and Debby's voice slowly gets more pumped up as the song continues. You can hear the sass in her voice as she sings each line. You can hear her outlook on the situation. Then, with a big bang on the drums, we get to find out the reason why she's never coming back to the guy she's singing about. With this song, the transitions are phenomenal and are so balanced. The hook is totally there. From "Ruthless" things once again get slower with "Before I Go Upstairs". With this song, the melody is soft and the lyrics just draw you in. The instrumentals in the back flow smoothly with Debby's relaxed voice. This is a song that you can't stop analyzing the lyrics. There are several things that Debby could be talking about when she was writing this. Some of these ideas could be about listening to people older to you before they move on and "go upstairs" [to heaven] or it could be about listening to the people who care about you before you "go upstairs" with them to your next chapter, step and journey in life. It could be about going to the next step with someone in a relationship or just a friendship. It could be about being afraid to get close to someone, but then finally letting it happen. The song could either be about growing and how your life intertwines with people as each chapter shifts or it could be about other things. It's definitely one of those songs that you can relate to in anyway. It will grasp your entirety no matter what the context is. When listening to it, you can't help but thinking what could have stricken in Debby to write it. At number four, the song is called "Call Me Up". For Debby, this is her Taylor Swift moment. In the song, Debby basically explains her experiences with this guy in her lyrics. The song just pours out with this edge. It's coated with it entirely. It's a good way to get back at the guy who found it fun to play with her heart and the heart of many others. From the song, it's definitely determined the guy was a MAJOR creep. The next song and last song on the record is "When The Dark Falls" also known as "Waltz". This song is about Debby and her battle against insomnia. The song is hauntingly beautiful and it's hypnotic, in a sense. The instrumentals in the background are unique and it adds another layer and tone.
On Instagram, Debby made a video thanking her fans and the people giving her voice and band a chance. She stated how she's glad that people dig her for who she is. Not just who they think she might be. She was definitely happy that people were liking her for who she is and not for her show. She was also happy about the fact that people didn't underestimate her because she works for a kid television network, it seemed! She also stated that this is only the beginning to the ride we have in store when it comes to her music career. Out of five songs, she definitely proved something to everyone. She's more than what meets the eye. At the Thirst Gala, which she attended a few days back, she stated how she's still practicing with her band. We're gonna hear soon more, guys! WOOHOO!
All in all, this album will definitely give you the opportunity to get to know Debby. The Debby who is a person and not just a crazy nanny on your TV screen every Friday. It's impossible to not fall in love with this side of Debby. Her album will be on repeat for days. The song has managed to get on the Top 100 list on Itunes and it continues to bring in people. Be one of those people and buy her album! It's only five dollars for this album you wont be able to put down. In my opinion, I think they deserve more. So, tell your friends and tell your family members to pick it up. Tell strangers, even! Just spread the word to thank these people who bring this creativity into our lives.
